Borough Opens Second Auction Round for West Chatanika River Lots

A second online auction for lots in the Fairbanks North Star Borough’s West Chatanika River Recreation Subdivision began Oct. 2 and runs through 5 p.m. Nov. 1. It covers parcels that went unsold in the first round, held June 25 through July 24. Unlike that round, this one accepts bids from people who live outside Alaska.

The subdivision lies roughly 38 miles north of Fairbanks. The borough platted 54 parcels there with generous lot sizes and few neighbors, meant for recreational and seasonal use far from town. It also built a trail network on the property.

Appraised values on the borough’s posted property sheets run from $9,800 to $17,400. Only individuals who are at least 18 may bid. Anyone behind on property taxes or other money owed to the borough is barred. When the auction ends, each parcel goes to the highest qualified bidder.

The borough says whatever remains after this round will be sold over the counter until gone. It cautions that sale dates could shift.
