The Fairbanks Fiber Festival begins today for its 11th year and runs through Sunday, Oct. 11, at the Alaskaland Centennial Center. Admission is free. The festival sets up in the park that took back its original Alaskaland name last month, and it’s a weekend gathering for anyone who works with yarn, thread or fabric.
The program spans knitting, crochet, weaving, embroidery, felting, basketry and more, including quilting and sewing. Visitors can watch demonstrations, attend workshops, browse vendor tables and educational displays, and shop a sale of fiber tools and equipment. Food will be sold on site. More than 40 Alaskan fiber artists are showing their work.
Running alongside it, the Cozy Collective Artisan Market brings local makers and their handmade goods to the 8 Star Events Center on 30th Avenue on Saturday and Sunday. Entry is free.
